Beauty routine: rules for caring for furniture
Interior designers unanimously repeat: bouclé, nap are in fashion, choose textured upholstery … But how practical is such textiles? Will a fashionable sofa require special care? – We found out from Angelina Loginova, head of the furniture fabrics department at Divan.ru, how to properly handle textured upholstery.
What upholstery is called “regular”
I would replace the word “normal” with “basic”. Manufacturers of upholstered furniture will definitely call velor the basic upholstery – it is a smooth, tactilely pleasant material. Unpretentious in care. It is easy to print on velor, so we often find velor with ornaments or patterns, cheerful shades (see photo below).
First of all, it is artificial fur. He came to furniture from the fashion industry and fits well into modern interiors. It looks impressive in interiors, designers actively use fur sofas and armchairs in their projects. But buyers are rather wary of fur on the upholstery (they suspect that it is more difficult to care for it than for smooth velor).
What determines the complexity of upholstery care
First of all, from the height of the pile. Compare – basic velor is enough to wipe with a damp towel as it gets dirty. Faux fur, on the other hand, will have to be consistently vacuumed once every 1-2 weeks, otherwise the dust will clog into the villi, and cleaning with home remedies will quickly become ineffective.
For those who are looking for the most easy-to-care upholstery, we recommend the Easy Clean coating option: the surface is treated with a special composition that repels moisture. This does not mean that the sofa will not get dirty at all, just removing dirt from it will be faster and easier.
Does the textured surface get dirty faster and is harder to clean?
Of course not. Textured fabrics can also be easy to care for.
Textured fabrics have only one “danger” – the claws of pets. And in a house with pets, it is really better to choose smooth fabrics without explicit weaving. In other words, matting, chenille will not work – they quickly appear claw hooks. And removing small hairs (for example, from a smooth-haired pet) from upholstery with texture will be more difficult.
